Show kids how the mail process works by creating a bulletin board that shows how mail moves in transit. You can display drawings of a mailbox then show a mail truck along with a piece of mail sitting in a regular mailbox. Create arrows that point to the next step in the mail process. Use drawings or postal service pictures. You can also create diagrams that display computers with arrows that show how email is sent. Decorate the border of the bulletin board with postal service symbols, little computers, envelopes and other mail symbols.
Showcase a bulletin board that displays pictures of the kids at the post office. Take them on a field trip to the local post office and help the kids put together their own picture collage from the trip. Hang up the collages on the board. You can decorate the boards with mail pins, envelopes and other symbols. The kids can also paint tiny cardboard boxes with postal symbols and you can glue these around the border of the board.
Adorn a bulletin board with colors that match the season. For instance, use brown poster board paper in the fall, blue and white paper in the winter and baby blue or lavender paper in the spring. Hang up letters that the children write to the president, public officials, favorite movie stars or other people. Decorate the borders of a fall mail splurge with fall leaves or feature little flags around a board showcasing letters to the president. Choose decorations for this board based on the time the letters are going to be sent out. You can use the original letters and send them at the end of the month when it's time to take the board down or make copies of the letters so you can put them in the mail right away and showcase a copy on the board.
Design a bulletin board that displays the children's paper mailbox decorations, paintings and other types of art that pertain to the mail. You can have the children make paper mailboxes out of poster board or card stock paper. They can also paint life-size mailboxes and take them home. Take pictures of the finished mailboxes and display these on the board. The kids can also paint or draw their own animated versions of the mail process to post on the bulletin board. For instance, they can feature a bird delivering an envelope to a house or draw a picture of a turtle with a pile of mail on its back. Decorate the border of the board with colorful envelopes adorned in stickers.
