How to Organize a Bulletin Board With Visual Aids

A bulletin board is an ideal classroom tool, acting as a visual aid for students. However, a bulletin board does not have to be only functional but can also be fun and whimsical. Making a decorative bulletin board with colorful paper, trims and decorations will add flair to your classroom and draw the attention of young pupils, as well. You can even get students involved in decorating and finishing their classroom bulletin board.

Instructions

    • 1

Hang a bulletin board from one wall of the classroom, using a hammer and nails. If there is already a bulletin board in the room, use that as a starting off point.

    • 2

Cover the board with a sheet of colorful paper. Bulletin board paper can be purchased in large sheets from craft stores. Staple the paper at the edges of the board to secure it in place, and then trim away excess.

    • 3

Cut strips of paper trim to match each edge of the board. Secure it around the edges of the board with a stapler, making a frame.

    • 4

Write a title at the top of the board, using a thick marker. Write a title like "Super Science Schemes" or "Mrs. Rose's Vocabulary Words."

    • 5

Cut a piece of yarn to the width of the board. Staple each end to either side of the top of the board. Place clothespins along the yarn so you can pin up papers and notes.

    • 6

Create visual aids of the lessons you want to display on the board, using pieces of colorful construction paper. For example, for an English-themed bulletin board, write examples of adjectives on one sheet of paper, examples of nouns on another sheet and examples of verbs on another. Glue each piece to the board.

Let students assist in finishing up the board. Have them decorate the bulletin board with markers, stickers and cut out images from magazines. Instruct the students to use decorations that go with the theme of the board.
