How to Program Big Numbers as Integers

As your child moves through middle school math, he may ask you for help with homework involving large numbers and integers. Assist him by introducing him to a scientific calculator that will help him program and compute large numbers. Learning to program a scientific calculator is also helpful for your personal computations and for teaching other people who want to save time by replacing free-hand calculations with computerized ones.

Instructions

    • 1

Type the base number into the calculator. For example, type 150000 or -134. Remember that an integer is any whole number -- positive or negative -- and zero. Therefore, both 150000 and -134 are integers.

    • 2

Press the exponent number, which is a carat and looks like the following: ^.

    • 3

Type the exponent number, which is the number of times the base number will be multiplied by the base number itself.

    • 4

Press "Enter." The large integer answer will appear on your screen.
