How to Make Rational Numbers Into 2 Integers

A rational number is a number that you can write as a fraction with an integer in the numerator and an integer in the denominator, and in which the denominator is not 0. An integer is a number, such as -1, 0 or 1, that has no fraction or decimal. For example, the number 1 is an integer, and the number 1/2 is a rational number. You can convert a rational number into two integers by rewriting the number without a fraction. This can allow you to perform operations with other integers or numbers in an expression.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a rational number that you want to convert into two integers. For example, convert the rational number 2/4 into two integers.

    • 2

Identify the integer in the numerator of the rational number. For example, the integer in the numerator of 2/4 is 2.

    • 3

Identify the integer in the denominator of the rational number. For example, the integer in the denominator of 2/4 is 4.

    • 4

Write the two integers with a division sign between them to separate the rational number into two separate integers. For example, write 2 ÷ 4, which is an expression with two separate integers with a division sign between them.
