Format the linear equation to the form y = mx + b. In this equation, "x" and "y" are values on the x and y axes, "m" is the slope of the line and "b" is the y-intercept of the line. For example, if the equation is given as 2y - 3x = 5, convert it to y = (3/2)x + (5/2).
Plot the y-intercept onto the graph. In this example, the y-intercept is 5/2. So, plot the point (0, 5/2).
Use the slope of the line to plot the next point. The slope is also referred to as the rise over the run. Start at the y-intercept. Then, rise 5 units on the chart and run 2 units to the right. This yields the point (0+2, (5/2)+(5)), or (2, 15/2).
Connect the two points to create the rest of the line.
