How to Cite Information From a Brochure

The Modern Language Association (MLA) and the American Psychological Association (APA) are popular styles used to format and organize information cited in research papers and manuscripts. Humanities and the liberal arts usually use MLA. Source citations in the disciplines of social science and cognitive science commonly use APA. Both formats offer general guidelines and rules for organizing in-text citations, work cited pages and bibliographical information for all forms of media. The two styles have slight variations, such as the punctuation and formatting used for in-text citations and works cited pages in the organization of information from a brochure.

Instructions

  1. MLA In-text Citation

    • 1

Put quotation marks around the information you are quoting.

    • 2

Write, in parenthesis following the quotation marks, the author's last name and the page number. If the author is unknown, write a shortened form of the title in the parenthesis and underline it. Do not separate the title or the author and the page number with a comma.

      For example:

(Stop the Spread of Influenza 1)

    • 3

Omit the page number if the pamphlet does not have numbered pages.

    MLA Works Cited Page

    • 4

List all sources in alphabetical order using the first letter of each entry.

    • 5

Write all the information that is available from the brochure. Write the author's first and last name, followed by the title of the brochure (in italics), the volume or issue, the city of publication, the year of publication, and the page number of the brochure, ending with a period. Omit any information that is not available.

Refer to the general bibliographical format:

Last name, First name of the author or organization (if available). Brochure title (italicized). Place of Publication: Publisher, Year of Publication.

      For example:

Stop the Spread of Influenza! Tips for Patients. New York: NYC Health, 2009.

    • 6

Indent the second line, the third line and all subsequent lines for each source listed in the works cited page.

    APA In-Text Citation
