How to Make Your Own Charted Graph

Charted graphs are an excellent tool to collect information when working on a project. Information and data is collected and then results are easily compared using a visual bar chart. These charts can show how one thing supersedes another by comparing the data form the chart. Choose anything from time, temperature or size and use the data to see how different objects stack up against each other.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a piece of paper to collect your data for your chart. Determine a title for you charted graph. Choose a title that summarizes your project or experiment. Write the title at the top of your chart using a pen or pencil.

    • 2

Choose a list of factors such as temperature or time. Write these factors on the left hand side of the paper in a column.

    • 3

Choose objects or types that you wish to compare and write them side by side across the top of the paper below the title.

    • 4

Complete the chart with gathered data from your experiment or project. Write down how each object or type compares to each factor on the chart.

    • 5

Construct a bar graph using the information gathered from the chart. Draw a line across the bottom of a new piece of paper. Draw a vertical line up the paper starting from the far left point on the bottom line. Using a ruler helps draw perfectly straight lines.

    • 6

Write the title of your charted graph along the top of the paper. Write the list of objects or types side by side along the bottom of the horizontal line. Write the list numbered results along the vertical line stacking each factor above the other. Place the highest number at the top and decrease the number as you get closer to the apex of the graph.

    • 7

Draw the results onto the graph. Start a line or bar from the specific object up to the number it reached in the experiment. Draw bars for all the remaining objects across the graph to their numbered results. Draw each result in a different color to easily tell the difference between the bars.
