Start by filming the process of creating the volcano replica. Using the tripod, mount the digital video camera or alternative recording device in a position that will capture the entire creation and eruption of the replica.
Check the video camera's memory for available space. Adjust the light settings on the camera to match the settings of the room. Press record. If there is not a built-in microphone on the camera, be sure to attach one.
Design the volcano with the construction paper, tape, scissors, paint, glue stick and cardboard. Tape four pieces of construction paper together to form a larger square. Roll the square into a cone shape with the tape on the inside. Tape the cone shape together. The center diameter of the top of the cone fits the paper towel roll inside. The height of the the cone equals the height of the paper towel roll.
Cut one end of the cardboard paper towel roll upward one inch in four places creating tabs. Tape the tabs to the center of the larger square cardboard piece. Tape around the bottom of the paper towel roll to create a seal.
Cut tabs along the bottom edge of the construction paper cone. Place the construction paper cone over the paper towel roll and glue down the tabs onto the cardboard.
Paint the cardboard and volcano replica to resemble an active volcano scenario. Add any additional colored construction paper to the cone or cardboard for visual design.
Pour two tablespoons of baking soda down the center of the volcano replica in the paper towel roll. Squirt three to four drops of red food coloring on top of the baking soda. Mix a quarter cup of warm water and half cup of vinegar together.
Pour the water and vinegar quickly down the center of the volcano and watch the chemical reaction.
