How to Make a Foam Board Noah's Ark for a School Play

The story of Noah's Ark is a timeless and classic Bible story taught in parochial elementary schools across the country. If you are planning to put on a play that tells the story of Noah, props will help tell the story more effectively and in a more entertaining way. Foam board is a durable art supply that holds up well to little hands, and can be used to create a large ark to tell the story. Use a few additional art supplies to help make an ark worthy of such a great Bible story.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a pencil and ruler to draw a large outline of Noah's ark on your foam board. Include a door and two or three windows.

    • 2

Cut the ark out of the foam board using a sharp utility knife. Make your cuts slowly to prevent damaging the outline of your ark.

    • 3

Place the ark on a pile of newspaper.

    • 4

Paint the ark brown using tempera paint and paintbrushes.

    • 5

Allow the ark to dry completely.

    • 6

Add details to the foam board to give the illusion of an ark. Include paper cut-outs of different animals poking out of the windows and door. Use a dark brown marker to add details to make the ark look like it is made out of wooden planks. Paint blue waves at the bottom to show how the ark floated once the rain stopped.
