Create learning centers in your home. You don't have to purchase anything to create different learning centers. Just place a bean bag chair or some comfy pillows in a corner and stack up some books or place them in a basket to make a reading center. Get some old clothes and Halloween costumes together in a toy box or tub and create a drama center, complete with a mirror.
Make or purchase child-sized furniture. Whether you are partial to school desks or tables and chairs, create a space that has child friendly furniture so projects and play can be done at the children's level.
Go for a nature walk with the children and pick up interesting items like stones, pine cones, leaves or twigs and create a nature center in your home. You can either make a new one each week or select items to add to it. A window sill or small corner table is a great location for a nature center.
Create an art center where a child can grab some crayons and paper or other crafty materials and create whatever they like. Small children often like to have their own desk or space that makes them feel like a grown-up where they can do their own "work."
Place coat hooks low on the wall, and set up a drawer or cabinet in the kitchen for cooking items they can use and a drawer in the refrigerator filled with healthy snacks they are always allowed to grab.
