Enter the name(s) of the author(s) and/or editor(s) with the last name first, followed by a comma and the first name. For example, the name would appear like this: Speareshake, Bill. If there is no author or editor to enter, move on to Step 2.
Enter the title of the article on the website in quotations, like this: "How to Cite Internet Web Pages." If there isn't a title, or if the source isn't an article, move on to Step 3.
Enter the title of the website that contains the information you're citing in italics.
Enter any available version or revision numbers, dates of publication, volume numbers, and issue numbers. Internet sources are often updated, so entering these numbers will allow the reviewer of your citations to determine the currency of the source.
Dates should be entered with the day first, followed by the first three letters of the month, and finally, the four-digit year. For example: 1 Jan. 2009.
Volume numbers are entered as simply a number. For example, if the source is Vol. 11, it will simply be entered as "11."
Enter the publisher of the source.
Enter the date on which you found the source in a day, month, year format (ex: 1 Jan. 2009) and enter the Web address of the source. The date works the same way as the information in Step 4--it allows the reviewer to determine the currency of the source. If you accessed a source a year ago, the information may still be current, but five or six years ago is archaic for an electronic source.
The Web address is no longer required by the MLA; however, it is of great value to the reviewer trying to locate the source.
Format the source as follows:
Speareshake, Bill. "How to Cite Internet Web Pages." Writing Resources for the Studious Man (in italics): 11. Writing Resources.org. 1 Jan. 2009. <http.//www.writingresourcesforthestudiousman.com/howto/cite/internetwebpages> (again, this is no longer required by the MLA). 8 Nov. 2009.
Enter the author(s) or editor(s) of the source you're citing. Put the last name first followed by the initials of the first and middle name. For example: Nosreme, W. R. (for the name W. R. Nosreme).
If there is more than one author or editor, the names should be entered as follows: Nosreme, W. R., & Neiklot, R. R. J.
Enter the date of the source's publication in parentheses, with the year first, followed by a comma and the month and day. For example: (2009, January 8).
If the exact date isn't documented, just use the year of the source's publication.
Enter the title of the source in italics.
Enter the Web address of the electronic source, preceeded by the phrase, "Retrieved from." The address should appear as follows: Retrieved from http://apaformatandstyle.org/howto/cite/internetwebpages.
Format the citation so that it appears as follows:
Nosreme, W. R. (2009, November 8). How to Cite Internet Web Pages (italicized). Retrieved from http://apaformatandstyle.org/howto/cite/internetwebpages.
