How to Cite an eNotes Web Page in APA

To cite an eNotes Web page in APA format, you must list the specific article information including the editor, title and publication date. You must also include information about the eNotes website, including the site title and a citation of the article's URL address, as well as the date on which you accessed the article. This information can then be properly formatted into an APA citation.

Instructions

    • 1

Write the name of the eNotes editor, if available. In APA style, the name is formatted as the editor's last name followed by a comma, then the first initial of the author's first name followed by a period.

    • 2

Write the full title of the article with no special formatting. Follow this with a period, then include the date of publication in parentheses, also followed by a period. If no date is given, place the abbreviation "n.d." in the parentheses instead.

    • 3

Cite the retrieval date and web address of the eNotes article. This is written as "Retrieved September 16, 2011, from http://www.enotes.com." An example of the complete APA citation is "Smith, J. Article Title. (Publication date). eNotes. Retrieved September 16, 2011, from http://www.enotes.com." The quotes in the above example are not included in the APA citation, and the word "eNotes" should appear in italics according to APA style.
