How to Cite Internet Sources for Speech Class

Citing an Internet source in your speech can help add credibility as well as provide some interactivity to your listeners. Making a citation in your speech is slightly different than doing so in a written report. It is important that your citation does not interrupt the flow of your presentation. When citing an Internet source, there are a few guidelines that you should follow.

      Determine whether your source is an organization or periodical (news/magazine) website.

      Say the name of the the organization only when citing an organization's website. For example: "The World Health Organization website states..."

      Say the main address of a website, without "www" that is a periodical source. Also include the date of the article. For example: "Livestrong.com, on May 18, 2010, teaches us that..."
