How to Cite a Website in a Speech

Citation remains a critical part of creating reputable speeches and documents. Citations help keep your information credible and relevant and will also give voice to other research or work that has already been done. Speeches require the citation of information, even when it comes from the Internet. Website resources should be mentioned similarly to journals, periodicals or books within the speech, referring to them whenever a direct quote or statistic is used.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the name of the company or creator of the website. Rather than listing the details of the website address, use the company's name. Any credible source will have a title, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

    • 2

Cite the source within the sentence which contains the cited information. For example, "Research done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found" followed by the cited information.

    • 3

Avoid using the same language repeatedly, such as "According to." Keep the citations quick and simple, referring directly to the website's author, organization or company name. Do not cite sources for generally understood or known information, but be sure to directly mention the website whenever you use direct quotations or results.
