How to Write a Bibliography for an Internet Search

Writing a bibliography for an internet search is a fairly straightforward task that can be completed in only a few minutes with the proper tools an instructions. According to the APA format, authors that cite sources from the internet must direct readers as closely to the materials being used as possible and must provide a direct link to the material on the bibliography page. Without this information, the source material can be considered invalid.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather the following information (if available) regarding the internet source: document title, date published, date of retrieval, URL and author(s) names. If some of the information is unavailable, record all that you can.

    • 2

Organize the information as follows: "Author (Date Written). Title of Source Material. Date Retrieved. Internet URL." Again, if some information in unavailable, skip over it and continue the citation. A working URL must be included for the source to be valid.

    • 3

Check the URL posted in the bibliography before submitting the paper to ensure that it was written correctly on the reference page and that the link is still working properly. If the link is misspelled or does not exist anymore, the material used from that source can be considered plagiarized.
