Focus your daily report on what interests your particular audience. Fans of the latest pop group probably won’t be inspired by economic forecasts. Develop a long list of sources so that you will always have some inspirational stories about your report’s focus.
Write interesting posts. Sometimes the news in your area will drive reader interest, but there will be dull periods when nothing much seems to happen, so dig into history for background and quotations, or make original observations. Because you will write every day, you will become very knowledgeable on your topic. This will give you a keen eye for what is really new or offbeat, and therefore interesting.
Choose topics that show people overcoming obstacles. Knowing that someone else ran into trouble and found a way to overcome it or cope with it inspires readers to do the same. As Professor Todd Thrash of the University of Rochester says, “Inspiration implies motivation,” and stories like these motivate people.
Check your sources for accuracy. As Professor Thrash notes, truth inspires people, too. Nothing deflates an audience more quickly than to hear an inspiring story, only to discover a short time later that it was false. Comparing news sources, or checking with sites like snopes.com or factcheck.org, can assist you in ferreting out false stories.
Provide colorful, personal, or beautiful details to help draw people into stories. Thrash’s study indicates that beauty correlates with inspiration, so posts that describe beauty and success are more likely to be inspirational.
Write about creative approaches or viewpoints, because Thrash’s study correlates creativity with inspiration. People who succeed using out-of-the-box methods, or approaches using old ideas in new ways, or by using art or music, will be inspirational.
Absorb the audience’s attention using visual aids that correlate with the writing. Absorption of a person’s interest is another way inspiration occurs, according to Thrash, and this often happens when a person views an attractive picture. If you do not have an actual picture, the same kind of absorption can be achieved by writing visually, and also by adding words that appeal to the other senses--hearing, taste, touch, and smell.
