How to Cite in APA With No Author or Date Listed

APA is the writing style dictated by the American Psychological Association that establishes the way essays and research papers should be formatted and the way the sources incorporated in these writings should be documented. Typically, a source cited within the text will consist of last name of the author and the date that the source was published. However, there are occasions when this information cannot be determined. There are special rules to follow in this case.

Instructions

    • 1

Write the sentence or paragraph containing the cited information.

    • 2

Insert a parenthesis between the end of the sentence and the punctuation.

    • 3

Add the title of the souce in quotation marks. If the title is long, shorten it to a few words that will allow the reader to trace the source back to the resource page. Follow this information with a comma inside of the quotation marks.

    • 4

Add n.d. to signify that there is no date, followed by a comma.

    • 5

Add the page numbers where the information was taken from. If this information is not available, as would be the case if the information came from a webpage, for instance, then use the paragraph number instead; for example, para. 1.

    • 6

Insert the closing parenthesis, which should be followed by the sentence's punctuation.
