How to Cite a Book With No Author in APA

Arm yourself with sources and the proper know-how about citing them whenever you write a research paper. In-text citations and reference lists provide a comprehensive list of sources for readers who want to verify or gather more information. Failing to list your sources or provide proper credit for an idea leads to accusations of plagiarism if the words are not your own. Generally, a book includes an author or editor, which makes citing your source easier. Sometimes you don't have this luxury, but the American Psychological Association, or APA, provides specific guidelines to help you format books without an author or editor.

Instructions

  1. In--Text Citation

    • 1

List the first few words of the title and italicize. Use the entire title if the title is short. List the editor's name if the book has an editor, but do not italicize. In some cases, a book author is "Anonymous." List "Anonymous" in the author's position. Do not italicize.

    • 2

Follow the title with a comma.

    • 3

Place the year of publication after the comma. Do not italicize the year of publication. Place the entire in-text citation within a set of parentheses. The citation should resemble this: (Title, year)
