Asbury College offers two music majors: the music major, with emphasis on performance, composition/arranging, music history and church music, and the music education major, which prepares students to teach vocal and/or instrumental music. Accredited by The National Association of Schools of Music, Asbury College offers a music department with a skilled and experienced staff and a fusion of Christian faith to ready students for a career or graduate work in the arts. An audition is required for acceptance.
Since the 1920's, Morehead State University's Department of Music has been preparing musicians and music educators with some of the nation's best programs and instructors. As of January 2011, Morehead State University, which is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, currently has more then 250 music majors from across the globe and more than 30 teachers from highly distinguished music programs. Morehead's wide array of faculty and student performance groups allow for artistic development while providing the surrounding community with concerts, recitals, musical workshops and other special events throughout the year.
The University of Kentucky is accredited by the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. As of January 2011, the University of Kentucky's School of Music has nearly 400 music majors and 110 graduate students. Kentucky's low faculty-to-student ratio in the School of Music -- the department boasts 39 faculty members -- offers music students personal attention and private instruction. As one of UK's 10 designated "Areas of Excellence," the School of Music has been recognized nationally for excellent education in the areas of musical performance, education, composition, history and theory.
The University at the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky, is accredited by the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The Department of Music at University of the Cumberlands is widely regarded as one of the best places in the nation to study under accomplished scholars and performers in the areas of music theory, vocal and instrumental studies, conducting and church music. Students are welcome to audition for one of nine college-sponsored as well as the university's theater productions and other student performance groups. Financial aid opportunities include: band and performance scholarships, the Phyllis Richardson Wood Music Scholarship and the Gwynn Cornell Helping Hand Music Scholarship.
