Minnesota Bartending Schools

Bartending school can be a valuable education for anyone who owns a bar or restaurant, would like to make a career as a bartender or just wants to tend bar to support themselves while pursuing another career. You will prepare for certification in what's known as "mixology" and most bartending schools also assist with job placement upon completion of the course. There is currently one bartending school in Minnesota and it's one of the largest in the country.

    • The Minnesota School of Bartending was started in 1968 and is located in St. Paul. Unlike other bartending schools, they offer one-on-one instruction as opposed to group classes. It has 30 fully equipped bars to teach students and the course is approximately 25 to 35 hours of training. It includes learning how to mix classic cocktails as well as new and trendy drinks. Anyone 18 years or older is eligible to take the course and the school assists with job placement upon completion. It also offers a refresher course at no charge to anyone who has completed the course.

    Professional Server Certification Corporation

    • The Professional Server Certification Corporation offers online certification for anyone in the service industry in any state. The Minnesota Responsible Serving Course can be utilized by bartenders, sellers or servers and will teach the required information to sell or serve alcohol in Minnesota and provide certification. The Bartending Mixology Course has 12 interactive lessons by audio and video that cover topics such as mixing a variety of drinks, how to spot someone who has been drinking too much, how to check identification and the responsibilities of the bartender. The course is self-paced and is typically about 40 hours long.

    The Art Institute

    • The Art Institute offers a Wines, Spirits & Beverages Management program, where the student will learn about managing alcoholic beverages and supplies for restaurants, banquet facilities or cruise ships. There will also be focus on marketing, accounting, employee relations and training, management and accounting. You must be at least 21 years of age to enter the program.

    Bartending College Online

    • The Bartending College Online offers a complete course in bartending that includes over 50 drink recipes and 16 timed tests. It is approximately a 40-hour course that can be completed at your own pace. You can purchase mixing kits and bartending books through the website and the college offers support and an online forum. Once you pass the final exam, you will be mailed a personalized certificate of completion.
