The Institute of Culinary Education in New York was started by Peter Kump in 1975. In 2002 and 2003, respectively, the school was a finalist then winner in the International Association of Culinary Professionals' vocational and avocational culinary school of the year awards. In 2008, the school received an award from the same organization for best vocational cooking school. Prospective students must be at least 20 years old and have a high school diploma or GED as well as have at least two years of college or related work experience.
