Adult Trade Schools

Many adults go back to school to learn a new trade or continue their education. Trade or vocational schools teach many specialties and usually offer hands-on training. Many trade schools have evening classes for adults. Trade schools can be found under titles such as Institute of Technology, College of Technology, Technical Institute, Career Institute, or Vocational Technical Institute. Adult trade schools include both public and private options, and are located throughout the U.S. Local community colleges may offer guidance on where to locate adult trade schools in the area.

    • The Refrigeration School, Inc. of Cooling and Heating in Phoenix, Arizona teaches how to maintain and repair climate control systems. This includes learning to troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems. Evening classes are available for adults. You can graduate in ten months.

      North American Trade Schools in Baltimore, Maryland offers a HRVAC or Heating, Refrigeration, Ventilation and Air Conditioning program certificate. You'll learn skills such as basic cooling, electricity for HVAC, industrial air systems and trade skills.

    Landscaping

    • Penn Foster Career School in Scranton, Pennsylvania, offers online programs in landscaping that teach you how to start and operate your own business. Courses include plant health, soil and fertilizers, creating landscapes designs and specialty landscaping.

    Culinary

    • Le Cordon Bleu in Austin, Texas is a hands-on training school where you'll be taught by experienced chef instructors. Programs at this school include day or evening classes, career services assistance and opportunities to earn a scholarship. The training taught can be used for all kinds of cooking.

      The Institute of Culinary Education, located in New York City, offers eight- to 12-month career training programs in Culinary Arts. This program offers diplomas in areas of culinary arts, pastry & baking arts, culinary management & hospitality management. The Culinary Arts diploma program teaches the theory practice and art of cooking.

    Welding

    • Lincoln College of Technology in Grand Prairie, Texas offers an array of trade programs, including welding. Courses include working with different kinds of equipment and learning a variety of welding techniques. You'll learn skills to prepare you for entry-level welding positions.

      Environmental Technical Institute in Itasca, Illinois, provides hands-on welding training. Program courses include basic safety guidelines following OSHA-10 training requirements, blueprint reading for welders and general material handling found in welder environments.
