Crane Inspector Certification

The Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) is a division of the Department of Labor designed to outline regulations aimed at creating safe work environments in America. In the United States, anyone that wishes to operate or inspect any type of crane in a work environment must first seek training and obtain certification from OSHA.
  1. Training

    • Obtaining OSHA crane inspector certification comes only upon completion of certain courses and passing required testing. A future crane inspector may have to complete such courses as, "Cranes and Rigging Safety." Coursework can be pursued at one of many locations and in some cases, online.

    Facilities

    • In Philadelphia, people interested in becoming crane inspectors can pursue training at the Mid-Atlantic Construction Safety Council. The University of South Florida in Wesley Chapel, Florida offers OSHA crane inspection coursework. OSHA courses are also offered in Las Vegas at the College of Southern Nevada.

    Inspection

    • Cranes are generally inspected on a daily basis. They are regularly inspected to ensure they are in proper working order before they are employed to perform a lift. All cranes are regularly inspected for indications of excessive wear, corrosion and cracks.
