NCCCO certification is voluntary for crane operators and meets guidelines established by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration and American Society of Mechanical Engineers standard B30. In states such as New Jersey and West Virginia, NCCCO TLL certification is mandatory as part of a mobile crane operator's state license.
The TLL crane operator certification is one of four specialty exams that mobile crane operators can complete, including the use of lattice boom crawler cranes, lattice boom truck cranes and fixed cab telescopic boom cranes. A five year certification period is achieved by passing core and specialty exams as well as meeting physical requirements.
To become certified as a TLL crane operator, a candidate must be at least 18 years of age and work within the crane industry. Individuals must prove they meet the physical requirements of ASME B30 by completing a NCCCO physical examination form and a Department of Transportation medical certificate.
