The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is a government agency that operates under the U.S. Department of Labor. The agency sets rules and regulations that contribute to safe work environments. OSHA sets truck crane operation, inspection and safety procedures. This agency certifies individuals to operate cranes in the U.S.
Individuals must undergo a specific training before they are considered for certification. Truck crane courses are available online and at dozens of OSHA-approved training facilities located throughout the country. After taking proper coursework, all necessary testing must be passed before certification is achieved.
On the west coast, OSHA training is available at California State University Dominguez Hills in Carson, California. In the Midwest region, OSHA courses are available at the UAW Health and Safety Department in Detroit, Michigan. In the New England region, OSHA crane training is taught at Keene State College of Manchester, New Hampshire.
