Ensure that you meet the necessary requirements for the GI Bill, and that it will be the best benefit to use in acquiring A+ certification. GI Bill benefits are generally payable for up to fifteen years after separating from active duty. If at any time during the process of applying for GI Bill benefits you have a question about eligibility, you may call the GI Bill helpline at 888-442-4551 to speak to a VA customer service representative about GI Bill benefits.
Gather all the necessary paperwork to apply for GI Bill benefits. You will need the most recent DD214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, transcripts for all education completed after high school and a Kicker Contract if you signed up for the Kicker option prior to discharge. While not necessary, if you would like to have benefits paid by electronic deposit to a bank account, you will need the bank's routing number and your account number when applying for benefits.
Find a school that offers A+ certification and that will also be GI Bill approved. The school's financial aid office generally can tell you if it is GI Bill approved or you can call the GI Bill helpline to verify.
Apply for GI Bill benefits online or by mail. The school you have selected may also be able to help you with applying for benefits. You can apply online using VONAPP, the Veterans Online Applications website. Alternatively you can complete VA FORM 22-1990 and mail it to a VA Regional Processing office.
