Enroll in a local college that offers Italian classes. Most community colleges offer basic foreign language courses.
Listen to a language CD while you drive to work or exercise. The more you envelop yourself in the language on a daily basis, the faster you will pick up words and phrases.
Install language software on your computer. Many use multiple methods to help you learn. Some programs are image based, so an image accompanies every word and phrase you learn. Some have microphones so you can test yourself on pronunciation. Also look for software that checks your spelling so you know how to write as well as speak in Italian.
Watch Italian movies with the English subtitles on. This is an excellent way to increase your vocabulary. You may find you learn words from movies that are not taught in computer programs or language courses.
Pick up an Italian language workbook from your local bookstore. Many language CDs actually come with the workbook provided so you can follow along with the CD. Although the books are helpful, you will need to make sure you have some sort of audio companion as you study Italian because it is easy to mispronounce words when you don't actually hear the word or phrase you are reading.
Sign up for an Italian language tutor. You might find a tutor advertised on Craigslist or on a bulletin board at your local library. Many community groups also offer language lessons and group lessons similar to those at a community college, although far less expensive.
