Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has many programs geared towards the distant learner. Located in Maidan Garhi, New Delhi, the IGNOU has what it terms "virtual classes" in which the student learns a subject solely through the Internet. Programs include virtual education in sustainable development, health science, law, agriculture, foreign languages, social studies, business and medical science. The IGNOU also has a program in which a student learns through real-time university exclusive educational channels broadcast in several ways, such as YouTube, satellite downlinks, web casting and educational TV channels. The IGNOU has several diploma and certificate programs in law and health, and Master's programs in library and information science, and intellectual property law.
Delhi distance learning is sponsored by the Universities of Delhi, a network of various universities in New Delhi. Delhi distance learning allows the student a great deal of flexibility with several modes of distance learning instructions. For example, MIT Open Course Ware provides students with free access to web-based publications of virtually all undergraduate and graduate subjects. Delhi distance learning offers FlexiLearn, Sakshat and Institute of Lifelong Learning, all technology career-orientated programs that allow students access to open virtual courses and real-time teacher portals.
The Jadavpur University Adult Continuing Education & Extension Centre in Bengal is a program "under the Faculty of Engineering and Technology," according to its web site. The Education & Extension Centre offers students two- to 30- week vocational courses for certificate programs, and a one-year degree program in special education. Eligibility for the certificate programs varies depending on prior academics. The university also offers one-year post graduate diplomas in communication, counseling, software engineering, business management, herbology, teachers training, optometry and social work.
