Distance Learning Programs in Ohio

Distance learning has become common among America's colleges and universities. The different types of programs tend to vary from school to school, depending upon the types of degree programs, departments and various colleges and schools found in the on-campus programs. In the state of Ohio, several of the major universities offer various online degree programs.
  1. Ohio University

    • Ohio University in Athens offers various distance learning programs. The university offers online associate degrees in applied business, an associate of science (A.S.) and and an associate of arts degree (A.A.). The A.S. and A.A. degrees are general education programs with slight variations in emphases. The A.S. degree emphasizes studies in science, while the A.A. degree emphasizes studies in the humanities. Students can obtain bachelor's degrees in criminal justice, nursing, technical and applied studies and specialized studies, an interdisciplinary self-directed study program. The university offers an additional online education program for incarcerated inmates and independent study programs. Students take independent study when they need courses to complete their degree that are not offered in the academic semesters they attend school. These courses are self-paced, allowing students up to six months to complete required coursework.

    University of Northwest Ohio

    • The University of Northwest Ohio in Lima offers all of its online courses and degree programs through its College of Distance Learning. The school offers various associate and bachelor's degree programs as well as various diploma programs. Students can obtain associate degrees in the fields of accounting, word processing and administrative support, office management, travel and hotel management, agribusiness marketing and medical office management, among others. At the bachelor's degree level, students can pursue degrees in specialized studies, business administration, marketing, forensic accounting, health care administration and accounting. A C.P.A. (Certified Public Accountant) track is available in the accounting degree program as well. The school offers nondegree diploma programs in the areas of agribusiness management, word processing specialization, executive assistant, travel and hospitality, medical coding, paralegal studies and studies as a medical transcriptionist.

    University of Cincinnati

    • The University of Cincinnati offers various associate, bachelor's and master's degree programs through its Distance Learning and Outreach program. Students can pursue associate of applied science degrees in the fields of fire science technology and early childhood education and care. Bachelor's degrees offered by the university include studies in the fields of addiction studies, special education, clinical laboratory science, health information management, early childhood education and fire science. The school offers a variety of graduate degree programs as well. A master of arts degree is available in the field of speech-language pathology. Students can obtain master of science degrees in the fields of criminal justice and pharmaceutical science. The school offers master of education degrees in the fields of special education, curriculum and instruction and educational leadership. The master of science in nursing (M.S.N.) is available as well.
