CSU is a fully accredited public institution located on the south side of Chicago, 12 miles from downtown. The university's five colleges are geared toward health sciences, arts and science, business, education and pharmacy. CSU offers students 36 undergraduate and 25 graduate degree-granting programs. It also offers distance learning and not-for-credit programs.

Located on the northwest side of Chicago, Northeastern Illinois University (NIU) is a fully accredited public university. The school offers students more than 70 undergraduate and graduate programs. The 60-acre commuter campus serves more than 12,000 students and was ranked the most ethnically diverse university in the Midwest by "U.S. News & World Report." The average class size is 24 with a student-to-faculty ratio of 18 to 1. NIU offers special programs for adult learners and nontraditional students.
