The Pacific Maritime Institute offers all levels of training, whether you're interested in becoming a seaman or in procuring your captain's license. The Institute is a member of the Pacific Coast Labor/Management Consortium and Ship Operations Cooperative Program, and uses this inside knowledge and involvement in the industry to give students real-world training. The Institute also offers a variety of simulation courses.

The Seattle Maritime Academy is fully accredited by the U.S. Coast Guard and offers two programs for students interested in the maritime industry. Its Marine Deck Technology program focuses on the theory, design and operation of equipment as well as teaching the navigational skills students need to qualify as an Able Seaman-Special. Its Marine Engineering Technology program utilizes both practical experience and more formal instruction on the design and operation of marine propulsion plants. Both programs include an at-sea internship for one to three months.

Zenith Maritime offers its own original merchant mariner license courses that meet U.S. Coast Guard-Code of Federal Regulations requirements. Courses include an Able Seaman Unlimited 56-hour course, an Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels 56-hour course, a Launch Operator course, a Marine Surveyor 120-hour course, and a Master 200 ton 112-hour course. Zenith Maritime is a private vocational school licensed by the state of Washington.
