A Guide to Seattle Schools

Seattle, Washington, is the biggest city in the Pacific Northwest and offers a variety of colleges and universities. The schools in the area vary in size and collegiate recognition, and contribute to the diverse culture Seattle has to offer. The area offers scenic views of Elliot Bay and the surrounding Olympic Mountains.
  1. Seattle Pacific University

    • Seattle Pacific University sits just 10 minutes from downtown Seattle and is a private Christian university. Its 43-acre city campus is located on the north slope of Queen Anne Hill, a residential neighborhood. SPU offers a full course catalog including college of arts and sciences as well as schools in business and economics, education, health sciences, theology and the school of psychology, family and community. The student to teacher ratio is 14:1 with 79 percent of classes having fewer than 30 students. The University offers on-campus living arrangements including four different halls and three apartment complexes.

    University of Washington

    • The 683-acre University of Washington is located just under 5 miles from downtown Seattle. UW offers a large selection of areas to study including colleges and schools of arts and sciences, business, dentistry, education, engineering, environment, law, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, public affairs, public health and social work. The campus also offers on-campus living dormitories for new undergraduate students as well as apartments for upperclassmen and graduate students. Family housing options are available upon request. There are many dining options throughout North, Northeast, South, West and Central campus. Attractions in the area are the Frye Art Museum, Paramount Theatre, Seattle Aquarium and the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks.

    Argosy University

    • Argosy University is located only 1.5 miles from downtown Seattle, with easy access from Interstate 5. The campus is minutes from the Lake Washington Ship Canal and is close to coffee houses, restaurants and entertainment spots. Argosy's course catalog offers degrees in psychology, education, business, health services, criminal justice and liberal arts. There are degree programs at the bachelor and master's levels along with continued studied options.

    South Seattle Community College

    • South Seattle Community College is located 5.6 miles from downtown Seattle. This 87-acre community college sits on a hilltop overlooking Elliott Bay and allows students to earn the first two years of the Bachelor's degree or obtain the full degree in the BAS program available. The extensive list of programs and courses offered range from accounting to aerospace engineering. The area provides a large variety of living options including houses, family services and apartments. The surrounding area also offers many dining and entertainment attractions including Seattle HeliTours, The Museum of Flight and Mt. Rainer Tours.
