CNA Programs in Southeast Kansas

Becoming a certified nursing assistant is a quick but not easy road. It takes a compassionate, patient and dedicated person to correctly perform the duties of a CNA. Besides the 4-12 week program, a state board exam must also be passed by the student. This is a great career option for nursing students, workers who need flexible schedules, or any caretaker that finds joy in the health care industry. Most positions will be in nursing homes, but other opportunities are in hospitals, home care and private practices.
  1. Coffeyville Community College

    • Coffeyville offers five programs that would benefit a student wanting to become a certified nursing assistant. The continuing education offered after a student has been made into a CNA is the institution's biggest benefit. Classes include a certification for a CNA, a certified medication aide, a social services designee, an activity director and a home health aide. Coffeyville's CNA program is a 90-hour course and is the first step in gaining experience in the nursing field. The other four opportunities are only available to current CNAs. The CMA course, offered at the Columbus campus, is 75 hours; the activity director and social services designee courses are 36 hours and the home health aide course takes 20 hours to complete. In order to become a CCC student, one must apply, submit transcripts, apply for financial aid and enroll in classes. Dorm living is available.

    • The CNA course is offered through the college's Allied Health program. A student can also gain further skills to earn more after becoming CNA. Neosho offers CPR training, which is mostly required to work in hospitals, and CMA or certified medication aide training, which tends to pay about a dollar more an hour. The CNA course is 45 hours of theory and 45 hours of clinical, while the CMA course is 75 hours. The CMA course requires that you be at least 18, have a high school diploma and have passed the state test to become a CNA. Applying for admission takes 10 minutes and can be done online.
