Founded by Cardinal Peter Pazmany in 1635, the Eotvos Lorand University is the longest serving university in Hungary. The Eotvos Lorand University mission is to "preserve and enrich national and universal culture, to cultivate science and to pass on academic knowledge, as well as to shape and satisfy the real, long-term needs of Hungarian society and mankind."
The university's areas of study include humanities, education, informatics, psychology, science, social science and special education. Each department at the university has specific requirements for admission when applying for an undergraduate program. The university looks for students who "can identify problems, represent the values of professionalism, respect universal ethical norms and students who are able to propose problem-solving strategies and bring about responsible decisions."

The slogan of the University of Szeged is "Where knowledge and intentions come together." Istvan Bathory established the academy in 1581 with a focus on the arts. The mission of the university is to provide "a place where will and possibilities may come together and where knowledge is coupled with the need for development."
There are 12 faculties and 200 undergraduate courses. Bachelor's programs are offered in English, computer sciences, American studies and science. The university offers undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs. There are a variety of student activities on and off campus. Student-run university clubs, dances and athletic events are popular among the student body.

Founded in 2000 after the merger of two smaller universities in Pecs, Janus Pannonius University and the Illyes Gyula Teacher Training College of Szeksard, the University of Pecs is the largest university in Hungary, with over 31,000 students. The goal of the university is "to ensure high-level teaching and research in every possible area of study." The university has 10 faculties and 500 study programs, including business, economics, health sciences, law, arts, sciences and education. Many of the courses are offered in both German and English.
Admission criteria vary with each department and degree program. There are a number of student organizations located on campus, the largest organization being the Student Union.
