Super Saturday is a one-day stage lighting seminar in New York City presented by Sonny Sonnenfeld and Scott Parker. The seminar lasts approximately ten hours. Over the course of the day, those in attendance will receive lectures from industry professionals and also be given the opportunity to attend workshops on subjects ranging from stage lighting to colors. Around 20 manufacturers of stage lighting equipment will be on hand to present and give a demonstration of their newest products. Super Saturday is open to both those already working in the industry, and those looking to get started. As of 2010, the seminar costs between $125 to $175.
Toi Whakaari is a drama school located in Wellington, New Zealand. They offer a three-day crash course in lighting design that takes about six hours a day. Students at Toi's workshop will actually be tasked with creating their own lighting design. They will be put into groups, and with guided instruction, each group will create their own lighting design that will be presented to friends and family at the end of the third day. Along the way, students will receive instruction on how to operate lighting boards.
The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London offers a one-week course in stage lighting. The course usually runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Instructors at RADA's workshop teach students how to set the tone of a scene with lighting design. Students also receive hands on experience with a variety of different lighting equipment. Students will receive a certificate of completion from RADA at the conclusion of the course.
