Interior Design Short Courses in the Philippines

Interior designers in the Philippines need a bachelor's degree. According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, interior designers must pass the Interior Design Board Exam, administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). Most Philippine schools offer interior design as a four-year course. Short courses are limited, but available ones give prospective designers initial experience and professional competence to take the licensing exam.
  1. PSID Basic Course

    • Since 1967, the Philippine School of Interior Design (PSID) has offered the Basic Course in Interior Design, for students with interest in the field, but no prior experience. This one-year program leading to a certificate course, familiarizes the student with methods and tools. It also provides deeper appreciation of the aesthetics involved in design and the application of decorating principles in various design requirements.

    PSID Advanced

    • PSID began offering the one-year Advanced Course in Interior Design in 1977, for students going to a higher level of interior design education, to gain advanced study in the professional field. It also directs students toward specialized fields of interior design. It gives students both experimental and experiential exposures, to better prepare them for the board exam. The highly-specialized subjects focus on design and style, and a major exhibit by the end of the term, which serves as the graduating thesis.

    Auto CAD

    • De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) offers the modular and hands-on Auto CAD 2D/3D for the designers and architects program, for those who want to develop or increase their design and art skills. With a course that features industry standard software and equipment, it strengthens people's competencies and adds to their credentials as licensed professionals in their fields. Offered by the DLS-CSB's School of Design and Arts (SDA) in partnership with the School of Professionals and Continuing Education (SPaCE), this non-degree certificate program has dedicated mentors and industry practitioners. In 1995, DLS-CSB and PSID had a consortium agreement leading to a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design at DLS-CSB, for students aiming to qualify for the licensure exams.
