Dialysis Training for RN Centers

Dialysis cleanses a patient's blood when the kidneys are unable to because of kidney disease or renal failure. Nephrology is the area of medicine that deals with kidney-related conditions and diseases, including lupus, polycystic kidney disease and renal failure requiring kidney transplants.
  1. Nephrology

    • Nurses interested in working with dialysis patients and equipment can pursue a career as nephrology nurse. These nurses work with children, adults and geriatric patients in hospitals, medical offices, dialysis clinics and other outpatient care facilities.

    Continuing Education

    • The Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission requires that nurses complete a minimum of 30 continuing education credits every three years for certification. The American Nephrology Nurse's Association approves continuing education programs, which include online training modules, conferences and seminars, and short courses.

    Curriculum

    • Continuing education modules and courses for nephrology nurses include diabetes mellitus, pharmacology for dialysis practitioners, the signs, symptoms and treatment of shock, and vascular access in the chronic hemodialysis patient.
