Dialysis training varies in educational programs. A program exists allowing a registered nurse to complete dialysis training and a state examination that enables the nurse to provide specialized dialysis services or supervision of dialysis programs. Dialysis technician training allows those with a high school diploma to pursue certification that will allow dialysis work under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Many types of schools provide dialysis training, including community colleges, internal health care organizations and online programs. Registered nurses interested in certifying as a dialysis nurse need to complete a state certification examination.
Dialysis training provides specific education to set up dialysis machines, prepare the patient for treatment, monitor the dialysis machine and provide follow up services once the treatment is complete. The dialysis training program lasts approximately six to 12 months to gain full educational requirements of certification.
