Training programs should include information about identifying how children respond and cope with grief and loss. Many training programs also will detail how the reactions of other family members to loss may affect the children involved. Training should further cover cognitive, emotional, and psychosocial factors with which children deal with grief and coping mechanisms that children may employ to get through this difficult time.
Training in children's grief can be done in a variety of different classroom setting either in person or online, though typically even online courses involve up to 10 contact hours of training, according to the Children's Grief Education Association. In-person classes on childhood grief typically last eight hours, according to the Beyond Loss Grief Training program.
The price for training in the support of a child's grief process differs based on the amount of in-class training provided and the specific expertise of the training supervisor.
