Evidence Management Training

Law enforcement personnel involved in evidence management oversee evidence stored and transferred to and from a criminal justice property room. These employees ensure that evidence for criminal proceedings is maintained in a safe state and is not accidentally or intentionally altered.
  1. Time Frame

    • Evidence management is a component of property room management. Training in this field comes in the form of short courses, approximately two to three days in length.

    Types

    • Property room management courses are available to sworn and civilian law enforcement personnel. Individuals involved in the design and development of property room and evidence control systems may also attend.

    Features

    • Evidence management training curriculum includes topics such as legal and procedural issues in DNA evidence, managing electronic evidence, and the management of hazardous materials and devices. Students learn the techniques and procedures involved in storing, withdrawing, returning and managing evidence involved in current and old cases.
