There are different levels of training that are offered to people that want to take event management. These include Certificates, Diplomas, Degrees as well as Masters Degrees in the field of Event Management, Project Management, Hospitality and Events Management, Business Administration and Public Relations.
Some of the classes you will undergo in venue management training include research methods, human resource management, customer care skills, finance and venue operations management. You will also study a bit of law, venue design and development and venue licensing.
Venue management training equips learners with a variety of skills to help them successfully plan events. These include good verbal and written communication skills. They also learn how to multitask, manage projects and work under pressure. They also learn staff management and budget management skills. Venue management students learn to remain calm and composed under pressure and develop interpersonal skills to work in a team environment. They also acquire knowledge in fields such as entertainment, venue selection, catering and conference services.
It is expected that a person that has undertaken venue management training should be able come up with the all the elements of an event, that is the logical, technical as well as the creative aspect. From this he should then plan and execute the event keeping in mind the client's expectations. He is responsible for the overall budgeting, negotiating, scheduling, site surveying, designing of the event, organizing all the services that are needed, ensuring that all safety and health procedures are followed, among other tasks he is to perform.
Though it is not a must, gaining a professional credential will boost your venue management training and career prospects. One such credential is the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) which is offered by the Convention Industry Council (CIC). This credential can be gained by any venue management professional all over the world after gaining three years professional experience and undertaking exams offered by CIC. The courses can be taken online. The application fee is $225 and the examination fee is $450, as of August 2010. Exams are offered two times in a year and the dates vary depending on your country. Certification should be renewed after every five years by applying for re-certification and applying a credit of 60 for training provided, though no exam is required.
