Extermination Certification

Exterminators are responsible for the removal of pests and other creatures from buildings and properties. Licensure and certification of exterminators is administered by state authorities, such as the Florida Department of Agriculture.
  1. Certification

    • State licensing authorities provide certification in different areas of pest control and extermination. For example, in Florida, certification is available in four categories of General Household & Rodent Control, Termite & Other Wood-Destroying Organisms, Lawn & Ornamental Pest Control and Fumigation.

    Training

    • Companies operating extermination and pest control services offer in-house training to their employees in the safe and proper use of extermination products. Initial training for new employees in pest control safety is usually completed during the first three months of employment, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

    Techniques

    • There are a variety of techniques available for exterminating pests, some requiring certification and others that do not. Pesticides bought over the counter do not require certification, with the label containing directions acting as a legal document.
