Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), a state educational facility in Reno, offers a two-year associate degree in transportation technologies at their Edison Way campus, and they also have one-year programs that awards certifications for automotive repair technicians. Other programs train future certified master workers for several types of automotive--including diesel--repair. The school has a 10,000 square-foot training facility, and it has a hands-on instructional style that allows students to practice and improve their skills. For example, those who are training as diesel technicians learn how to, "maintain and repair over-the-road semi tractors and heavy equipment used in long-haul trucking, construction, and mining," according to the website.
Great Basin College Nevada (GBCNV) in Elco has a program in diesel technology that teaches its students how to maintain and repair all types of diesel equipment including mine-related equipment and over-the-road trucks. The curriculum also has hands-on training and course study in heavy equipment technology. Students learn about electronics and electrical systems along with the necessary computer skills that are associated with troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing diesel engines. This Associated of Applied Science degree also provides basic management skills for this technical genre.

This magnet school is a four year comprehensive career, vocational and technical high school that allows qualified students the opportunity to earn technical automotive certifications and licences that will make them employable in this field after graduating from high school. The bulk of the program is based on courses, Automotive Technology l and ll, taken in the junior and senior years, and they are an internship in the "Automotive Youth Education Systems" program, which follows "National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation" guidelines," according to the school's website.
