The University of Alabama is located in Tuscaloosa and offers over 350 majors within the music department. This include undergraduate degrees in performance, composition, history, jazz studies, education, theory and therapy. Students can pursue Bachelor of music degrees, as well as a Bachelor of Arts with a major in music and a Bachelor of Science in education. The graduate program offers a Master of Arts and Doctor of Education in music education. The student in these programs can focus on either instrumental or vocal music.
The University of South Alabama offers multiple degree programs for the musically inclined student. A minor in music is also possible. The program requires an audition as part of the application process.
The University of Montevallo was the first school in Alabama to receive accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Music, in 1931. The program has approximately 3,000 students and offers about 85 majors for undergraduate students. Among these are a Bachelor of Arts, Bchelor of Music or a master's in education with a concentration in music. A minor in music is also possible. The school requires an audition prior to acceptance in any music degree program.
Auburn's music department offers several degree programs, including the Bachelor of Arts in music with a focus on performance, and Bachelor of Music Education with options to focus on instrumental, vocal or a combination of these two disciplines.
