Things to Do for Sorority Recruitment

Joining a sorority is a way to connect with other college women while making new friends and finding potential networking relationships that can help you build your career after graduation. When looking to rush and pledge to join a sorority, various preparation methods and techniques are possible to help improve your chances of acceptance at the sorority of your choice.
  1. Research

    • Researching various sororities at your college along with their individual histories is essential to understanding the type of sorority you are rushing and looking to pledge for. Having a bit of background information on each sorority house you are visiting during rush will allow you to converse with the sorority sisters with ease and confidence.

    Preparation

    • Preparing for sorority recruitment involves being confident and having an understanding of who you are and what you are looking for in a sorority. It is important to prepare by choosing outfits that are not too showy, flashy or exposing too much skin (such as a short skirt or shirts exposing cleavage.) Stick with a classic casual look including sandals or flats -- steering clear of high heels during the introduction process. It is important to present yourself and your personality rather than your looks to the sorority sisters you are interested in joining.

    Confidence

    • Having confidence and feeling secure with yourself, your body and overall self-esteem is essential to presenting yourself at your best when rushing and pledging for a sorority. Be proud of your interests, accomplishments and hobbies when speaking with other sorority sisters and those interested in pledging. Practice speaking in front of a mirror or close friends to help prepare you for rush week.

    Get Social!

    • Getting to know the girls in each sorority house is important to help with making connections and meeting new friends. Get social during rush week and when looking to pledge to stay memorable to those already in the sorority, helping to keep you in mind for acceptance to the house. Avoid standing alone in a corner and find new friends by staying open and being yourself.
