The Trojans' Swimming and Diving program can claim Olympic Gold Medalists Erik Vendt, Janet Evans and Klete Keller among its graduates. The McDonald's Swim Stadium is USC's main training facility. The men and women's swimming and diving teams and water polo teams practice there. The facility meets requirements set by the International Swimming Federation. USC's program has won nine NCAA championship titles. As of 2010, the Trojans hold more than 300 conference and Pacific 10 Conference titles. USC hosts the Janet Evans Invitational, one of the largest Grand Prix national meets.

Stanford women won eight NCAA championships between 1983 and 1998, while the men won the same number from 1967 to 1998. Stanford has had a rich history of competitive swimming dating back to 80 years ago. Its first Olympic medalist was Norman Ross in 1920. Since 1988, Richard Quick has been the women's head coach. Skip Kenney is in his 31st year as the men's coach. Stanford has produced several Olympic medalists, including Misty Hyman, Jeff Rouse and Tom Wilkens. Both men and women's swimming teams practice at the Avery Aquatic Center, which opened in 1972 and was refurbished in 2001. It has four separate pools, as well as areas for diving.

Spieker Aquatics Complex, completed in 1982, is home to the Cal Bears swimming and water polo teams. The pool's swimming space meets requirements for national and international swimming and water polo competitions. The program claims many Olympians, Pac-10 Swimmers of the Year and All-Academic Americans. Olympic medalists include Mark Henderson, Joel Thomas, Natalie Coughlin and Haley Cope. The Cal Bears swimming program has produced World University Games, Pac-10 and NCAA champions since the 1980s.
