Complete the FAFSA. The FAFSA or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is the first step in receiving a grant for Texas colleges. The FAFSA will help determine a student's need, and then related grant organizations or foundations will contact the student with offers of grants or scholarships. The FAFSA can be filled out in high school guidance counselor's offices or online at www.FAFSA.ed.gov. By filling out this application, students will have more access to grant options and opportunities.
