Open a writing program on your computer.
Set the font to "Times New Roman" and 12 pt. font size.
Click the "Insert" menu and select "Page Numbers." Click the "Position" drop-down box and select "Top of Page." Click the "Alignment" drop-down box and select "Right." Check the box next to "Show number on first page" and then click the "OK" button in the bottom right corner.
Click the "View" menu and select "Header and Footer." Position your cursor on the header portion of the page.
Type in the title of your paper in all-caps. Example: BIOLOGY OF WESTERN PLANTS
Click the "File" menu and select "Page Setup." Click the "Settings" drop-down box and select "Microsoft Word." Click the "Margins" button near the bottom of the "Page Setup" pop-up box. A new pop-up box will now appear.
Click the "Layout" tab at the top of the pop-up box. Click the box next to "Different first page" under the "Headers and Footers" options. In the "Section start" drop-down box, select "Continuous." Click the "OK" button near the bottom of the pop-up box.
Click the "View" menu and select "Header and Footer." Scroll up to the top of the first page if you are not already there. Type in "Running head:" and then the title of your paper. It should look like: Running head: BIOLOGY OF WESTERN PLANTS
