Type "References" at the top of the page, but do not put the quotation marks around it. Center the word and use the same font as your paper. APA style calls this a reference page, rather than a works cited page. Double space the reference page and leave 1 inch margins all around.
List the author's last name first followed by a comma then the author's initial. Example: Smith, J. List the year of publication in parenthesis followed by a period: (2009). Write the title of the book followed by the edition in parenthesis ending with a period. Include city of publication followed by a colon, then the publisher followed by a period.
The reference would appear as such: Last name, initial. (Year). Book. (Edition). Location: Publisher.
Indent subsequent lines after the first line five to seven spaces to form a hanging indent.
Arrange entries in alphabetical order by authors' last names. Arrange references iwthout authors alphabetically by title in that same list.
Capitalize only the first word of a title or subtitle, and any proper names that are part of a title. Use italics -- rather than underlining -- titles of books and journals.
