How to Study for the Basic Life Support Pre-Test and Post-Test

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is a requirement for nearly all people working in the healthcare field and is a good idea for everyone to have. BLS certification is offered through the American Red Cross and American Heart Association. Both of these organizations have post-tests that students are required to pass in order to obtain certification. Usually, a pre-test is administered to give the students an idea of what they are about to learn and prepare them for the post-test.

Instructions

    • 1

Familiarize yourself with the basics of BLS, such as the need to check for an airway, breathing and circulation. Do this by reviewing a website with information on BLS or skimming through a BLS book. This is a great way to prepare for a BLS pre-test.

    • 2

Attend a BLS class and pay attention to the instructor. BLS classes range from a few hours to a full day. Throughout the class, the instructor will provide all of the information required to pass the post-test.

    • 3

Ask questions throughout the BLS class about any piece of information that is not fully understood. Ensure that all pieces of information are understood before the instructor moves on to the next lesson. BLS requires that students understand each piece of information because each lesson builds upon the previous lesson.

    • 4

Review information learned in the BLS class before taking the post-test. Do not hesitate to ask additional questions before taking the post-test if any aspects of the class are not completely understood.
